Learning to play guitar can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also be daunting for beginners. The good news is that there are simple chords that can help you get started with playing your favorite songs. In this video, we will focus on two beginner guitar chords: E minor and A major.
E minor is an easy chord to start with as it only requires two fingers to play. To play the chord, place your middle finger on the second fret of the A string and your ring finger on the second fret of the D string. Strum all the strings except for the low E string. Marty Schwartz, a guitar teacher, emphasizes that there is no such thing as an “easy” chord in the beginning, but E minor is a good “starter” chord.
Once you have mastered E minor, you can move on to the A major chord. A major is another beginner chord that is commonly used in many songs. To play A major, you will need to use all four fingers. Place your index finger on the second fret of the D string, your middle finger on the second fret of the G string, and your ring finger on the second fret of the B string. Finally, place your pinky finger on the third fret of the high E string. Be sure to angle your fingers so that they all fit on the same fret.
It is worth noting that there are two types of chords: minor and major. Minor chords have a sad or moody sound, while major chords have a happy sound. However, most songs combine both minor and major chords to create different moods and feelings.
To help you get started, try playing the E minor and A major chords together. This combination of chords is similar to the sound of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe” and “Wish You Were Here.” It may take some time to get the hang of these chords, but with a little patience and practice, you’ll be playing your favorite songs in no time.
In conclusion, playing guitar can be a fun and rewarding experience. Starting with simple chords like E minor and A major can help beginners ease into the world of guitar playing. With practice and dedication, you can master these chords and move on to more complex ones. So grab your guitar and start strumming!

I have played guitar for 2 years. My teachers were bad, I never progressed, and I was unmotivated to play. Now I'm restarting with Marty!
A major is hard to play
Hello Marty i just bought my first guitar and let me tell you I’m excited. I never played one in my life and I came into your first video I have the first chords. I can’t wait to keep learning from you thank you so much… I have a question I might be doing something wrong on my end I hear like a little rattling when I strike the strings how can I eliminate that from happening? Also man my finger tips hurt so bad OUCHHHH!!! Lol
Definitely buying your courses!!! Thank you so much!

Any tips or advice on what to do if I can’t read a lick of sheet music.
Omg I’m loving this so far I’m so excited to keep learning!
My finger tips hurt and I feel like such a noob for saying that haha
What do you suggest for someone who has bigger fingers? I can fit them on but the D chord sounds off I’m guessing because my finger is too far up???

Hey Marty I have been learning your chords but only got up to lesson 7 the F chord and you have not left any more now I am stuck
he is the best guitar teacher ever! I just started today and i already know E minor and A minor
Thanks for the video I learned a lot
I cannot for the life of me fit all three fingers on the second fret. My hands are pretty small so it's hard to twist my hand at an angle while still keeping all three on the first fret. I've been trying for days now and it's so frustrating.
i’m having a hard time getting the right sounds, but my guitar is tuned correctly. i think it’s my strumming technique, any tips?
Marty, I have a Yamaha FG-335 I bought from a friend a few years ago. I've not touched it until I saw your tutorial last week for the first time. I'm on lesson 2 and find I'm having a hard time with the A minor. It seems there's just not enough room on the fret for all three of my fingers as I can't seem to keep my ring finger off the Eddie string? Do I have a big enough guitar? I'm a very large man. 6' 8" and 345lbs. Talk about having fingers like sausages. Mine are more like Polish Sausages. By the way. Learning the guitar is something I've wanted to do since I was five when I first saw the Beatles on Ed Sulivan. My dad forbade it.
I’ve had a guitar for about 4 years my dad said he’d get me lessons and never did I picked it up tuned it and now I’m playing these pretty good I’m used to the finger hurting because I play violin
