Learning to play guitar can be a fun and exciting hobby, but it can also be a little intimidating if you’re just starting out. Fortunately, there are many great resources available to help you get started, and one of those resources is Eric Andre, a rock star guitar sage who has created an instructional video series on YouTube. In this article, we’ll be looking at one of his videos where he teaches you how to play “Sweet Home Alabama” on acoustic guitar, using only three chords.
The chords that Eric uses in this video are part of what he calls his “nine essential chords” series, which is a collection of chords that every guitarist should know. The chords he uses in this video are D, C, and G, with an F chord thrown in. Although the song technically has four chords, you can get by with just three, as the fourth chord is only played sparingly.
Eric explains that the song is played on electric guitar, with lots of solos and other flourishes, but that he’s going to show you how to play it on acoustic guitar in a quick and easy way. He starts by demonstrating the chords, and then shows you the rhythm that he’s using, which involves muting the strings with his picking hand. He notes that if you need help with this technique, he has another video on his channel where he covers it in more detail.
To play the rhythm, you’ll need to mute the strings and then strum the chord, and then mute the strings again before strumming the chord a few more times. Eric demonstrates this technique for both the D and C chords, and then shows you how to add some additional notes to make it more interesting. He advises practicing the rhythm separately from the chords, so that you can get the hang of it before putting everything together.
If you’re intimidated by the F chord, Eric reassures you that he’ll show you how to play it, and that it’s not as hard as it looks. He demonstrates how to play it, and then shows you how to incorporate it into the rhythm.
Overall, Eric’s video is a great resource for anyone who wants to learn how to play “Sweet Home Alabama” on acoustic guitar. The chords he uses are easy to learn, and the rhythm he demonstrates is a lot of fun to play. If you’re looking to expand your repertoire beyond this song, be sure to check out his other videos as well, as he covers a wide range of topics and techniques.
