How to play Happy Birthday on guitar?

“Happy Birthday” is one of the most recognized songs worldwide and is relatively straightforward to play on the guitar. Here’s a guide on how to play “Happy Birthday” on the guitar:

  1. Chords: The primary chords used in “Happy Birthday” are C, G, and F. If you’re playing in a different key, the chords will vary, but for this guide, we’ll use the key of C.
  2. Song Structure:
    • Line 1: C – G – C (Happy birthday to you)
    • Line 2: C – G – C (Happy birthday to you)
    • Line 3: G – F – C – G (Happy birthday dear [Name])
    • Line 4: C – F – C – G – C (Happy birthday to you)
  3. Strumming Pattern: A simple down-strum for each chord will work well for “Happy Birthday.” However, you can also use a basic down-down-up-up-down-up pattern to give it a more rhythmic feel.
  4. Melody: If you want to play the melody instead of strumming the chords, here’s a basic tab for the melody in the key of C:
e|—-0-0–1-0-3-2–|—-0-0–1-0-4-3–|—-0-0-8-5-3-2-1–|—-6-6-5-3-4-0–|
B|——————|——————|——————-|—————–|
G|——————|——————|——————-|—————–|
D|——————|——————|——————-|—————–|
A|——————|——————|——————-|—————–|
E|——————|——————|——————-|—————–|
  1. Practice: Start by practicing the chord transitions, ensuring you can move smoothly between them. If you’re playing the melody, practice the tab slowly until you’re comfortable, then gradually increase your speed.
  2. Tutorials and Tabs: There are many online tutorials and guitar tabs available for “Happy Birthday.” These resources can offer visual guidance and additional playing tips.

Remember, “Happy Birthday” is a short and sweet song, so with a bit of practice, you’ll be able to play it smoothly. Whether you’re strumming the chords or playing the melody, it’s a delightful song to share on someone’s special day. Enjoy playing!

5 Mistakes Beginners Make When Learning Guitar Online (VIDEO) http://beginnerguitarvideos.com/5-mistakes-beginners-make-when-learning-guitar-online-video/ http://beginnerguitarvideos.com/5-mistakes-beginners-make-when-learning-guitar-online-video/#comments Wed, 27 Feb 2019 10:48:51 +0000 http://beginnerguitarvideos.com/?p=93

TOP 5 MISTAKES BEGINNERS MAKE LEARNING GUITAR ONLINE

1- Tensing and twisting the wrist while strumming
Strumming motion begins at the elbow with just a little movement of the wrist. The most important thing it to RELAX the arm and just have enough tension to hold on top the pick

2- Picking is a small motion that should be done with movement of the wrist only
Resting the wrist is optional, but I think it will help most people be more accurate with their picking

3- Putting chord fingers down one at a time
Try making the shape of the chord with your fingers before putting the fingers down

4- Not knowing where the beat falls and understand ‘ghost strums’ (hand movements that you don’t strum)

5- Not building a repertoire of songs

Top 5 Guitar Mistakes and Bad Habits to Avoid for Beginners Learning through YouTube

As a beginner learning to play guitar through YouTube, it is important to avoid some common mistakes and bad habits that can hinder your progress. In this article, we will discuss the top 5 mistakes and bad habits that beginners should avoid, as identified by Andy from AndyGuitar.co.uk.

1. Wrist Strumming
The first and most important mistake to avoid is wrist strumming. Many beginners tend to move or tilt their wrist while strumming chords, which can cause inaccurate strumming action and hurt the little muscles in the wrist and hand. Instead, it is recommended to strum from the elbow while keeping the guitar close to your body and moving the arm in a pivoting fashion. By using the big muscles of the arm and moving from the elbow, you can achieve a more accurate strumming action without hurting your wrist and hand.

2. Separating Rhythm and Lead Playing
Another mistake that beginners make is treating strumming chords and picking single notes as the same thing. In reality, they are two separate techniques that should be treated differently. Strumming chords requires a movement of your arm from the elbow to achieve a consistent action and strum all the strings evenly. On the other hand, picking a single note requires you to rest your wrist on the guitar and move from the wrist for single note playing. Beginners should practice both techniques separately to master them effectively.

3. One Finger at a Time Chord Changes
When learning new chord shapes like G and C, beginners tend to place one finger down at a time when changing chords. However, this is a mistake and will hinder your progress in playing the guitar. Instead, it is recommended to place your fingers in the correct place, strum your chord, lift off the chord, and have that shape memorized in your fingers. By doing this, your hand will memorize the position and shape of each chord, making it easier to change chords quickly without having to place your fingers one at a time.

4. Not Holding Chords Properly
Another mistake that beginners make is not holding chords properly, particularly the C chord. The C chord requires a nasty stretch and can be difficult to play when your fingers are placed in line with the frets. Instead, it is recommended to place your fingers on an angle and have them touching at certain points to help memorize the position of your hand and chords.

5. Not Practicing Slowly
Lastly, beginners often make the mistake of not practicing slowly enough. Practicing slowly can help you master the techniques and muscle memory necessary to play the guitar effectively. It is important to take your time and not rush the learning process.

In conclusion, as a beginner learning guitar through YouTube, it is important to avoid these common mistakes and bad habits to improve your playing skills effectively. By following these tips and practicing regularly, you can become a better guitar player and enjoy playing music for years to come.

Learn to Play Guitar: Easiest Chords for Beginners

If you are looking to learn how to play the guitar, you might be wondering where to start. With so many chords and techniques to master, it can be overwhelming for beginners. However, with the right guidance, anyone can learn to play the guitar. In this article, we’ll focus on the easiest two chords to play on the guitar and show you how to play them in a sequence. This tutorial will give you a glimpse of what guitar lessons will be like, or you can use it to get a head start before your first lesson.

The first chord we’ll learn is the E major chord. To get started, you’ll need to know a bit about the anatomy of the guitar. The strings on the guitar are numbered from 1 to 6, starting from the thinnest to the thickest. The frets are numbered 1, 2, and 3, with the open strings being considered as 0 (zero) frets.

To play the E major chord, put your first finger on the third string inside the first fret. You should stay on the tips of your fingers and keep them at the side above the fret. The first finger should be placed at the side of the area closest to you, kind of next to, or against the metal fret. The middle finger goes on the second fret of the 5th string, and the third finger goes directly underneath that middle finger, on the 4th string, also on the second fret. Press those fingers down with the tips of your fingers to create a nice arch shape with your hand.

Once your fingers are in place, strum every string with your right hand, and you’ll hear what the E major chord sounds like. Make sure that both fingers are at the side of the fret. If they’re on the wrong side, you’ll have to press down harder to get the note to ring out.

The second chord is the A major chord, which we’ll learn from the E major chord. Keep your fingers where they were for the E major chord, and take the second and third fingers away. Only the first finger stays on this first string and slides across the 2nd fret. This is what we call an ‘anchor’ finger. For the first three chords (E, A, and D) we’ll learn in this tutorial, the first finger will stay on this third string and just slide across to make chord transitions easier.

To play the A major chord, place your first finger just inside the second fret, your middle finger above it, and your third finger below it. Keep your little finger right against your third finger, and make sure everything is as close to this position as possible to make a nice, strong shape.

Playing the guitar takes time and practice, but with these two chords, you’re already on your way to playing some of your favorite songs. Remember to keep your fingers in the right position, and practice transitioning between chords. As you become more confident, you can start to learn new chords and techniques to take your playing to the next level.
