In this Godfather Them guitar lesson, I will show you how to play Slash’s live in Tokyo 1992 performance of his signature solo piece.
This seems to be the version that most people request me to teach even though he has played this many times live. You can easily find this performance on YouTube.
The tuning is Eb tuning. Starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.
Throughout this solo piece, you will find some sections that are obviously being improvised by Slash. These sections will be difficult to play note-for-note. Slash himself doesn’t really play it the same way every time.
I will take you through each of those sections note-for-note, but I stress that you can easily make those parts your own and not worry about playing everything EXACTLY like Slash does in this one performance. Doing something similar is fine and no one will ever know the difference.
There are also some sections, mostly when Slash is playing the actual movie theme, that he does play that the same way every time. Those sections are much easier to learn note-for-note. They are very melodic and a lot of fun to listen to and play.
